GetSported

As a part of my final assignment for my Digital Publishing for Apps subject, I had to design a functioning prototype for an app.

‘GetSported’ is a community sports app that provides users who are interested in playing 2-4 player sports with the opportunity to connect with other people who are interest in the same sport and lets them connect and schedule matches with each other. If the app actualises, it will also be ideally partnered with courts within the Greater Sydney Area that will also provide the equipment (if required). Users would pay a discounted price to rent out the court as well as the equipment and play together.

Value Proposition

It allows users to play and interact with not only other players but also scouts. Each user will have their own profile page that scouts can look up on the app. The information on their profile page consists of matches played (how many won and how many lost), age and location (this is to allow scouts to determine which team they maybe be playing for if scouted).

Research

Users & Audiences

This app is specifically designed for people who would like to play these sports but don’t necessarily have the resources to play them. It is also meant to help people practice and play in a safe environment where their opponents can either be made up of users with more skills like experts or amateurs who are just learning the ropes of how the game works. The intended age range based on the user persona, is between the ages of 18-25. Users under the age of 18 will not be able to use this app without parental supervision. It also has the ability to touch users from more senior age groups as they can pick and choose the age group they choose to play with. They more senior users can play with people their age or younger if they prefer and vice versa for the younger users.

Survey

A survey was curated with and for the intended users in mind to better understand their behaviour as well as the criteria that impact their decision of potentially using this app.

Identifying User Needs

it was important for me to incorporate the current times to be in line with current user needs. As COVID restrictions have started to ease up, there has been a surge in social networking events in all areas of interest including sports. With the surge in social networking events and people trying to remain and get active again, I combined the 2 current user needs to find an in-between concept that facilitates both needs to increase the likeability of the app (Needs to be rephrased)

Key Content & Functionality

The key content in the app will be the sports that users can choose from as well as the scheduled matches, their availabilities as well as the location of those matches. The app will primarily require a sign-up page, a map to locate the nearest courts users can play at as well as a calendar for scheduling and participating in matches as well as a chat function that allows users to interact with one another when confirming of rescheduling matches.

Competitor Analysis

During the ideation process of this app, I conducted research in order to analyse the types of similar and or related apps that were in existence and how I could set my app aside from the pile and make it unique. Out of all the similar apps, there was only really ONE app that had a similar functionality as my app prototype and it’s an app called WeSport. That being said however, instead of focusing on specifically dual sports, it includes team sports as well however, unlike my app, it doesn’t partner up with local courts that would allow players to play on a proper surface rather they focus on local park areas where teams gather to play and just so happen to be looking for players. My app is also different in that it allows the opportunity for scouts for come in and look at player statistics and even scout them. There were a few other apps out that that had direct and relevant similarities to mine. A competitor analysis was conducted in order to see how these apps compare to mine.

User Testing

Contextual Inquiry

This aim of this inquiry is to observe the users' interaction with the overall design of the app and the aesthetics of it. An observation was made on the users behavioural tendencies to better understand what the user wants to get from the app. Two types of information were collected in the process: sequences in which participants go through all the UIs and their perceptions toward icons chosen in the App.

Interview

An interview was conducted with 2 students after initial user testing, to gauge their thoughts and how they went about using the app. An important aim of this interview was to see what part of the apps' functionality worked and what didn't work as well.
